Michael Best & Friedrich LLP is seeking a Patent Attorney (Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering/Science) to join our Milwaukee, Madison, Waukesha, or Chicago office.

This is an exceptional opportunity to join a growing Electrical and Computer Science IP team with a national and international client base. Founded in 1848, Michael Best & Friedrich LLP has provided intellectual property services to clients for more than 100 years and has over 100 professionals.

Requirements


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Counseling clients on the enforcement of their rights and the avoidance of their competitor’s rights;
  • Preparing non-infringement and invalidity opinion letters, and; Counseling clients on designing around competitor’s patents.


EDUCATION:

Candidates must have an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.


EXPERIENCE:

Preferred candidates have experience with some or all of motor design and control, control systems, power tools or other motorized consumer products, wireless technology, machine-to-machine (M2M) communications, and the Internet of Things (IoT).

  • Admission to the Patent Bar and 7+ years of patent prosecution and clearance experience strongly preferred.
  • Senior Associates and Senior Counsels are encouraged to apply.


The candidate must excel in a team environment and be a highly motivated self-starter with excellent business judgment, outstanding written communication skills, and the flexibility to thrive (and have fun!) in a fast-paced professional environment.
