Conflicts Attorney

Berger Singerman LLP is currently recruiting for a Conflicts Attorney. This position will be resident in our Fort Lauderdale and will be responsible for reviewing and analyzing all conflict check requests in connection with new matters and new hires. This position will be responsible for maintaining the reliability of the conflict check database and will also assist with other projects as needed. This position will work closely with our Risk and Reputation Manager and firm management. The Conflicts Attorney job description includes

  • Accurate and timely analysis of conflict search results and related new business intake, and help in facilitating the resolution of potential conflicts and waivers, where necessary.

  • Reviewing new business intake (NBI) forms to insure party information submitted for conflict checking is correct and complete. Have an understanding of commercial and litigation matters in order to identify instances in which party information provided is incomplete or presents conflict concerns.

  • Analyzing and evaluating conflict search results, providing a complete summary report of findings to the requesting attorney and management, and identifying and/or facilitating resolutions of ethical or business conflict of interest issues.

  • Utilizing internal and external databases to conduct research on prospective clients, adverse and other related parties.

  • Verifying open and close dates on matters, ascertaining the nature of an entity’s role in a particular matter, and when helpful, producing organizational charts in order to facilitate analysis of potential conflicts and relationships between and amongst parties.

  • Review reports with accounting team members to insure search criteria applied would capture the appropriate hits in order to generate a thorough conflict report.

  • Assisting lawyers, legal assistants and paralegals in utilizing the NBI application.

  • Assist with other projects as assigned by Risk and Reputation Manager or firm management.



Preferred Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor, and membership in The Florida Bar in good standing.

  • One year of law firm experience. Previous experience in conflicts and business intake advantageous.

  • Knowledge of ethical rules and risk management requirements governing conflicts of interest and conflicts resolution processes.

  • Proficiency in technical applications: Knowledge of Excel a must and Aderant a plus.

  • Familiarity with research applications such as Dun & Bradstreet, Westlaw, and Bloomberg.

  • Excellent organizational skills and a high attention to detail.

  • Ability to manage complex projects and assignments while maintaining tight deadlines.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of personnel.

  • Flexibility to work additional hours or weekends as needed.
